Bittersweet sale…

It’s a bittersweet day. We have sold Annfwn, the “good child,” our Niagara 35. We took such care in selecting her when Calm Psalm & Itch was totaled (after being blown over while stored on the hard). She was a comfortable and attractive cruiser and we took many photos of her in beautiful, remote anchorages in the northern Great Lakes. After last summer, I was second-guessing our decision to sell her. But Ron’s knees and hips are screaming for a boat easier to move about on, and then this winter an interested buyer responded to our Craigslist ad. We hope Eric loves her as much as we do.

We’ll try to “clean up” the Gulfstar now that she’s back in fresh water. As much as we’ll miss what a sweet sailor the Niagara was, it is a big relief to be down to owning “just” two boats (not counting multiple dinghies and a kayak)!

    • Actually, it wasn’t a “quick” sale…She was listed for over a year and a half with a broker. The broker had someone “interested” last June, but it got really weird and then the guy just kind of disappeared. Ron put another Craigslist ad up late this fall and that is where we found our buyer (or they found us).

Yes, we do have different boat names. Goal is to never see another boat with the same name as ours in any port or anchorage we visit. So far, we’ve met our goal. Not sure how well “Prairie Dog” will do, but the name seems to fit her.

  1. Lots of good memories! Where is that gorgeous photo?

Sorry to hear Ron’s difficulties with high top sides. We can barely got off and on this boat at high tide.

Had planned to go to SafeCove Tuesday, but seawater pump problem. Sister ship had same issue – had to raise the engine to get the $10 pump seal changed due to location which overlaps the engine mount. Factory rep said should have 1mm clearance…so we are hoping it will go well.
