We made it! After an overnight passage from Marco Island, we arrived to anchor outside Boot Key Harbor just before sunrise, even though we continually reduced sail, trying to slow the boat down so as not to navigate the Seven Mile Bridge before daylight. We ended up navigating in the dark anyway.
Once we both got a couple of hours of sleep, we hoisted anchor and moved inside the harbor where it was more protected and to await our mooring assignment. It felt good to get a long, hard sleep last night, secure on one of Boot Key Harbor’s fine moorings.
Overall, it was a good night’s sail even though we had an encounter with a crab pot at 2300–not fun. More to follow on that one!
