Those hot summer days…

In my opinion, there is nothing more refreshing on a hot summer day than an icy gin and tonic. As a sailor, I learned to appreciate gin and tonics early (limes prevented scurvy in olden times, right?) in my sailing life. I also like salty dogs (grapefruit juice with vodka), which were a favorite of my dad’s, before prescription drugs entered my parents’ (and Ron’s) life, and they can no longer do anything grapefruit. I love grapefruit. I really don’t want to have to take those drugs.

So… back to G&T’s… I have this friend, I’ll call her Missy, at the Duncan Bay Boat Club. She and her partner own a boat on our dock, just a couple of slips away from Annwfn’s. At some point, we discovered that we share a love of gin. In the past, my gin of choice has been (1) Tangaray or (2) Bombay Sapphire. To be honest, if you’re just mixing the gin with tonic and lime, Gordon’s makes a pretty good drink and is less expensive.

Last year, Missy introduced me to Hendrick’s gin and tonic, with a cucumber instead of lime. Oh my. It is unbelievably refreshing. This year, she introduced me to Botanist gin– also amazing. One thing both gins share is more of a spice than a citrus finish, which probably explains the slice of cucumber being so delightful.

So yeah, Missy… I don’t know whether to thank you or to curse you!
